We live in New Jersey, so after Hurricane Sandy hit our area our power was out for a couple of days. My husband and I are both teachers and the schools where we work were closed because of the power outage. So we took advantage of the extra time we had to do some walking and running.
The day after the hurricane, we took a long walk around our neighborhood and the surrounding area. My in-laws had power that day (they lost power later, but that’s another story) so we also walked over to their place to warm up and charge our phones. We ended up walking 6.3 miles and we saw a lot of downed trees and power lines on our walk. In our area, the wind seemed to do a lot more damage than the rain.
It was really sad to see so many beautiful and formerly healthy trees knocked down by this storm! The wind was so strong that even some mature trees fell into nearby houses and power lines.
After our long walk, I decided to go for a run around the area.
