Running the Spooky Tails & Trails 5K (10-27-12)

On Saturday, October 27th, I ran the Spooky Tails & Trails 5K at Veteran’s Park with my husband, Michael, and our friends John and Pam.

Michael Pre-Race

It was a great day for a race!  The weather was overcast and cool.  There was also a pet costume contest at the park, so we got to see all kinds of adorable dogs dressed up in costumes!  In addition, they held a kids fun run before the 5K race, so we watched the children run.  Some of them were dressed up for Halloween… and they were fast!

When it was time for the 5K to begin, we all queued up to start the race.  I couldn’t hear much of what the race organizer was saying, which is typical for me during a race… I always just trust that the runners at the front of the pack know where to go!

John finished the race in 22:41 and won second place in his age group!  He got a medal!

I finished in 29:32, which is a new personal record for me!  Michael walked and ran and finished the race in 35:44, which is a 16 minute improvement over his previous 5K time from September!  Pam walked and finished in 45:24!  It was a great day and everybody did an awesome job!

Here are my official results from the race:

  • Distance: 5K
  • Time: 29m:32s
  • Overall Place: 104 out of 197
  • Female Place: 32 out of 103

These were my results according to Endomondo:

  • Cooper (12 min) 2.15 km
  • 1 km 5m:28s
  • 1 mile 8m:57s
  • 3 miles 27m:44s
  • 5 km 28m:38s

The course at Veteran’s Park always seems to be about 0.10 to 0.15 miles off… Every time I run a race there my GPS results differ from the official race results.  My husband checked his results and he noticed the same discrepancy in the distance readings.  I think the course there is just not an exact 5K… It’s more like 3.25 miles.  Maybe someday they’ll re-survey the course and fix the error!

A special thanks goes out to the Hamilton Area YMCA and Veteran’s Park for hosting this great event!  Proceeds from the race went to the local YMCA and the Pet Rescue of Mercer.
