Running the Hopewell Challenge 10K!

On Saturday, October 13th, 2012, I participated in the Hopewell Challenge 10K.  It was my first 10K race!  For me, this was a really challenging course because of the elevation.  We ran up a 440 foot mountainside and back down.

Here are my official race results from the Hopewell Challenge 10K:

  • Distance: 10K (6.2 miles)
  • Total Time: 1h:03m:13s
  • Place: 78 out of 95

  • Cooper (12 min) 2.14 km
  • One hour 9.59 km
  • 1 km 5m:02s
  • 1 mile 8m:24s
  • 3 miles 29m:21s
  • 5 km 30m:20s
  • 10 km 1h:02m:16s

I really would have liked to complete the race in an hour or less, but I’m happy with these results (especially due to all of the steep inclines on the course).  I actually had to walk a little during miles 3 and 4 of the race because my legs were killing me from the constant uphill running.  I would run a little up an incline until my legs got really sore, then walk to the top of the incline, then run down like the Road Runner!  Once I reached another incline, I would start the cycle over again of running/walking/running.  It was unusual doing that much walking during a race, but it seemed to work for me in terms of managing the hills!

I’m definitely looking forward to my next 10K!
