I was really tired yesterday after work, but I knew I had to get a run in. I wore my Nike Free sneakers to try to break them in some more. The last time I wore them, I ended up with a large blister on my big right toe. This time, they were no problem for my feet, but my legs definitely felt the impact of the ground more than they do when I wear my Brooks PureFlow running shoes.
The big problem this time was all of the bugs that were out! There were literally thousands of small gnats swarming around and I could not escape them! In the first half-mile of running, at least 100 gnats attached themselves to my face, neck, arms, and shirt. I had to keep stopping to shake them off! The distraction and annoyance of these little bugs really slowed me down… It also made me feel pretty bad, because I was killing whole families of gnats just by running into them! I discovered that if I ran in the middle of the road I could avoid a lot of them, but whenever a car drove near, that just wasn’t feasible.
After the run I decided to take my new bike (a Raleigh Route 3.0 hybrid) out for it’s first ride with Endomondo. I’m just getting used to the bike, so I’m really taking it easy with it right now. Here are the stats:
