Good weather again today! I’m loving these fall temperatures… Usually, my routine is to run every other day, but the good weather got me out there again this evening.
It was a slow, easy run. My pace was slower than usual and my distance was average.
In the middle of mile 3 I saw a couple who I had passed earlier in my run walking towards me. I started to cross the street to avoid running directly in their path, but they moved to approach me. I slowed my running a bit and noticed that the man had his hands cupped around a small object of some kind.
“Did you lose a parakeet?” he asked. It was then that I noticed the small object in his hands was, indeed, a little green bird.
“Nope,” I said, “It’s not mine.”
“Do you know if anyone on this street is missing a parakeet?” asked the woman.
“No, I don’t live on this street. Sorry,” I replied as I started to run again. Then I turned and called after them, “You should take it home!”
They nodded, shrugged, and kept walking and looking at each house.
Throughout the remainder of my run I kept thinking of the parakeet. Should I have taken it home? Probably not… My cats would have liked it, though!
I sure hope they took it home if they couldn’t find its owner. It seemed to like them!
